KSP Dream Team | Confidence-Building Portrait Sessions for Teens in Highlands Ranch, CO
Does your kid ever come home stressed by school, or their friends are fighting or they have lack friends altogether? You don’t know how to help them or what to say. It’s such a helpless feeling. I’ve been there.
I also remember being that age, and how awkward and lonely I felt. My parents were divorced, and I didn’t know anyone else who had gone through that (this was in the 80’s in the suburbs.) I didn’t realize it at the time, but I needed someone to see me, to listen to me…someone who wasn’t a family member, but who also wasn’t a friend, because they were going through their own stuff.
I think about teenagers today and all of the things life is throwing at them that I didn’t have to deal with. Even I feel overwhelmed for them.
After I started mentoring with our church youth group in 2012…I saw first hand the way their confidence was impacted from all sides, friends, school, life…I felt ill-equipped, and I wasn’t even their parent. I wanted to be better for them, to do better, but I didn’t know how.
Somehow, I found a program called Youth Mental Health First Aid*. I was able to get certified through a day-long program that educated teachers, first responders, youth mentors…anyone who was a trusted adult in a teens life. It made a world of difference. I finally felt more confident to recognize signs and have difficult but empathetic conversations with teenagers that I mentored. Most importantly, I knew where to direct a teen who might need professional help, without making them feel like there was something “wrong” with them.
The main thing I took away from that training was this: the number one impact on a teens mental health and resiliency is to have a trusted adult in their lives.
I had already started my KSP Dream Team program in 2019, as a way to build organic relationships in my community for my photography business. I offered a handful of fun photo sessions to teens as a way to help them feel seen. Over time, I started adding in elements to help build resilience for teens and their mood and mental health. I called these Supportive Events.
Soon afterwards, the parents of my Dream Team members were coming to me and saying that this program was more than just photo sessions. They saw it as a mentorship program with the ability to positively impact the kids I was photographing. This idea of a mentorship program felt so much more in line with what I wanted to be for these kids in my program, and in my community. So, in 2024 I changed the vision and the mission for the KSP Dream Team. It is a mentoring program first and foremost. The photo sessions were still important, but the intention behind them changed. The sessions were now focused on helping each person feel they are strong, beautiful, and seen…just as they are. Those photo sessions are designed to lift them up and help them feel special and important. To really know their worth.
I want to clarify something though…I am not the hero in any of this. Your kid is the hero. They face each day with the world inundating them with negativity caused by comparison, and ideas and challenges we never had to face as kids. They are stronger than they realize. We want to come alongside them, providing a safe place for them to just be.
The KSP Dream Team offers personalized portrait experience and mentorship opportunities for middle school and high school students in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and the surrounding communities.
In late 2025 we made the decision to take a break from the KSP Dream Team because it wasn’t serving our members the way we had envisioned. After spending most of 2026 reevaluating not just this program, but our business, our clients, and our community…we have decided to relaunch the KSP Dream Team. It is still a mentorship program, but it is a lot more individualized and, thankfully, more manageable for me and my team.
So, what does this mean for you? Well, if you have (or know) a middle or high school student, and you resonate with this program…you can celebrate them with a KSP Dream Team photo session for a special birthday, event or milestone moment. Or, just because. Along with your photo session, you and your child will receive our monthly Mood & Mental Health newsletter that offers tips and resources. Your teen can also book a 1 on 1 coffee shop mentoring* time with me. This mentoring time can be used for brainstorming, venting, or just taking a break.
